Taking advantage of an inopportune bronchitis, I write to share with you what La Casa De Mayten is up to. Well, after finishing the house for Rosaura and Manuel, Andy and I spent January and February in Chincha fixing my house/volunteer head quarters, spending time with the kids, and going to Lima a lot to take care of permits and health related stuff. By mid February I decided to join Andy on a month-long motorcycle trip through Peru. Our trip was fantastic. We met incredibly generous people who took us in, fed us, provided shelter for us free, and most importantly offered us their friendship.

We came back to Chincha in mid march, and the kids as usual, would not leave my side. We cooked together, we did our usual workshops together, we cleaned, we played soccer, and took them to the pool for the first time ever (thanks Borja & Friend). April rolled around in Chincha like this, and I decided to come to Cusco, to look for work...But plans do change, and I am now in Cusco getting ready to fly to the United States in 13 days.

PLANS-Staring September 09, La Casa De Mayten will launch a province-wide Anti-Violence Campaign which will be tied to a Free Integral Health Campaign working with 12 schools in Chincha. We will also organize two reward cultural/educational exchange programs outside of Chincha for children, teenagers and adults who prove to be excellent violence fighters within their homes and schools using what they learn through our campaign. I am already putting together a Chincha-Lima-Cusco-the world volunteer team to help me accomplish these 2009 goals. How exciting no? (We need open, socially responsible, creative, humane, world aware dentists, psychologists, artists of all sorts, social workers, teachers, alternative therapies specialists, and more from September 09 - December 2009)
Ok, so, I desperately need to work and going to the States will give me the chance to generate enough funds to pay off a debt I have with friends who loan me money to finish the house we built for a disabled family, save the maximum amount of money possible to buy in Peru all the materials (design and print educational pamphlets about violence, t-shirts, in class materials, etc) needed for the three-month province-wide Free Educational Anti-Violence/Integral Health Campaigns , provide food and shelter for a battalion of volunteers, pay La Casa’s water, electricity, phone, internet, gas bills, organize two cultural/educational exchange programs outside of Chincha (transportation, hostel, food, entrance to sites, etc), and last but not least, begin buying the land in which I want to build a cultural/educational community center in Mina De Oro, Sunampe, Chincha in 2010.

As you can see I need to work and make A LOT of money. I will also be organizing two fund raising events in the states to help me raise the funds I need. Friends, and family in the states, I will need your help organizing fund raising events. Please write to me ASAP, if where you are, there is a great available free place I can use to throw the most exciting, interesting, socially committed, fun fund-raising event ever seen. I need places, performers, paintings to auction off (I will bring a couple of donated paintings from well known painters in Cusco), rewards for high donors, and someone to offer me a drink :) after it all. Friends in New York, California, Miami, Chicago, Boston, New Mexico, and New Jersey let me hear from you!!!!

Queridos amigos del Perú y el mundo,
Hoy, aprovechando una bronquitis que tengo, quiero hablarles sobre estas últimas semanas en Chincha y ahora Cusco. Bueno, empiezo por contarles que decidi después de hacer unos muy necesitados arreglos a mi casa, pasar tiempo con mis niños, y hacer una sarta de viajes a Lima para revisar salud y papeles en el consulado; tomar un mes para viajar por el Perú en moto con Andy, quien se ha quedado ayudandome y bastante.
Nuestro mes en moto por Perú fue fantástico, encontramos seres generosos, y lugares extraordinarios. Claro, terminamos un poco cansados y también adoloridos, pero no hay duda que recorrer un país en moto es la forma más libre, económica, y maravillosa de viajar. Y bueno, regresamos a Chincha y a los niños en marzo. Tuvimos tiempo para cocinar con los niños, hacer algunos talleres, llevarlos a la piscina por primera vez (esto fue inolvidable), y llenarlos del amor infinito que les tengo. ¡Amo a mis niños, están enormes por cierto!

En abril viaje a cusco, ya que desde diciembre del 2008 estoy en bancarrota total y necesito trabajar. Si no fuera por Andy, mi AMADISIMA MADRE, y mi querido Borja, no sé que hubiera hecho todo este tiempo. ¡GRACIAS! Ahora estoy en cusco, no he encontrado trabajo asi que parto adonde pueda trabajar.
Asi es, me dispongo a viajar en unos dias a Estados Unidos y trabajar, y ojala organizar unos o dos eventos recauda fondos allá. Este 2009 en Chincha tengo planeado lanzar una campaña educativa provincial anti-violencia trabajando con doce colegios en Chincha. Sera trabajo arduo de 4 meses, pero ya estoy armando un equipo Chincha-Lima-Cusco-el mundo de voluntarios, y la respuesta de los colegios ha sido positiva hasta ahora. Una campana de salud integral gratuita ira unida a esta campaña anti violencia. En mis tres meses en los Estados Unidos debo generar suficientes fondos para pagar una deuda de 1700 dólares que me prestaron amigos para terminar la casa de mis viejitos, pagar mis pasajes ida y vuelta que ha pagado Andy por mi ahora, ahorrar la máxima cantidad de dinero posible para poder comprar todos los materiales que necesito para las campañas (diseñar panfletos sobre la violencia y imprimirlos, camisas, material didáctico, etc), dar comida y casa a un batallón de voluntarios, pagar luz, agua, teléfono y internet de la casa, organizar dos programas de intercambio educativo/cultural fuera de chincha para niños , jóvenes y adultos que demuestren ser excelentes luchadores en contra de la violencia dentro de sus casas y escuelas, y por ultimo para ojala empezar a comprar el terreno para el centro educativo/comunitario cultural que será mi único enfoque el 2010 para Chincha.

Como pueden ver tengo mucho trabajo por hacer, pero sé que la vida y mis amigos no me dejaran sola y lograre todas las metas trazadas para este 2009. El proyecto imposible sigue generando calidez, alternativas, oportunidades, y demostrando que lo imposible es posible cuando unimos nuestras manos, trabajo, energías y talentos y construimos comprometida y colectivamente una mejor comunidad humana, un mejor mundo para todos.
