Thank you Frankfurt, Germany! Gracias Frankfurt, Germany!

Dear friends, it is with my deepest gratitude that I write this entry today, wishing every person who believes in our work and wants to help us continue lots of health, love, and friendship. On Thursday, November 28th, we had our Frankfurt Fundraising event, and I am so proud and grateful to share with you that the event was a success, but more importantly, the event helped us create a beautiful and palpable bridge between people who brought open hearts and minds to meet us and to get to know our work in Chincha.

Thank you Jeannine, PWC, and other friends in Germany for making the Frankfurt LCDM fundraising event possible. Thanks to each of you we were able to raise $1,800. We still have $4,100 to raise to make our January - March 2014 work in Chincha possible, but thanks to you we are a lot closer to meeting our goal. 

It was amazing to be able to connect with people so far away, but who generously decided to spend part of their evening learning about our project and helping us raise funds so that we can go back to Chincha and to our work. I was so grateful to see the faces and hear the laughter and voices of all those who attended the event in Frankfurt, Germany. This wonderful experience moved me deeply, and I hope to continue having more of them through my circles of support around Peru and the world. I want to especially thank our beautiful friend Jeannine Friedrich for working so hard to make the event possible. Jeannine was the engine behind the event, and I am sure everyone was motivated to attend and help thanks to her enthusiasm and drive.  Jeannine, millones de gracias por todo tu trabajo y dedicacion! I would also like to thank all the generous people at Price Waterhouse Cooper's Social Responsibility, HR, Catering, and Event Services departments and Sodexo for all their help and support in making the event possible. Lastly, I would like to thank our friend Max, Alejandro Conza for providing the event's music, all of Jeannine's friends who made donations at the event and through our betterplace.org page, Marcel for helping us get sound equipment, and every person who attended the event on the 28th for making the event possible and for your generous donations. It was great to connect with you via Skype and to be able to see you and properly thank you for your help, presence, interest and support.  

Queridos Amigos, esta manana, escribo con el ser lleno hasta el tope de gratitud. Hoy, abrazo a muchos seres en mi adentro agradecida por su fe en nuestro trabajo, y por sus deseos de ayudarnos a continuar cultivando amistad, crecer y comunidad. El jueves, noviembre 28, celebramos nuestro evento recaudafondos en Frankfurt, Alemania, y con mucha emocion les cuento que el evento fue un maravilloso exito, sobre todo porque pudimos construir un puente extraordinario entre personas que asistieron esa noche con la mente, el corazon, y el ser abierto y listo para ayudarnos. Que cosa mas linda fue poder atraves de Skype ver, escuchar y conversar con todas las personas que asistieron al evento y que dieron de su tiempo y recursos generosamente. Con cada donacion hicieron que nuestros sueños para La Casa De Mayten y para todas las personas que son parte de nuestra comunidad siguan tomando forma y vida. Gracias a la ayuda de todos nuestros amigos en Alemania pudimos recaudar a traves del evento y nuestra pagina betterplace.org $1,800 y aunque nos falta recaudar $4,100 dolares aun para poder regresar a nuestro trabajo de enero a marzo 2014, ya estamos mucho mas cerca nuestra meta.

Espero poder seguir organizando eventos recaudafondos a travez de nuestros circulos de apoyo en Peru y otras partes del mundo, y seguir viviendo estas experiencias de intercambio, de encuentro, y de conversacion con seres humanos interesados en ayudarnos a seguir construyendo nuevas y diversas posibilidades en el futuro. Quiero muy especialmente y con todo mi ser agradecer Jeannine Friedrich for todo el trabajo incansable que hizo para hacer realidad este evento. Ella fue el motor que impulso este evento y le enviamos todo nuestro agradecimiento por apesar de sus muchas responsabilidades haber logrado organizar este esfuerzo para ayudarnos a retornar a nuestro trabajo en Chincha este 2014. LCDM: Sumando fuerzas para forjar nuestra mejor vida

Queridos amigos, amigas y familia de La Casa De Mayten en Peru y en el mundo! Ante todo quiero decirles que los quiero, que los extraño, y que hoy como siempre les pienso y envio un gran abrazo lleno de bien, de buenas intenciones, de luz, y de muchas ganas de salud integral para ustedes donde quiera que esten. Despues de mucho tiempo vuelvo a escribir, queriendo no solo reconectarme con ustedes, sino tambien queriendo iniciar una renovada conversacion infinita y empezar una nueva etapa para La Casa De Mayten a su lado.

Como saben a mediados del 2011, por razones economicas y personales, yo tome la decision de suspender las actividades de LCDM indefinidamente con la esperanza de poder recobrar salud fisica, dedicar un tiempo a mi familia, y conseguir mas recursos y fuentes de apoyo para mi querido proyecto independiente. Bueno, en estos ultimos dos años, la vida, que es sabia y generosa, ha querido llevarme por caminos no previstos pero definitivamente necesarios. Gracias a la vida en este tiempo he podido vivir muchos momentos muy lindos y otros muy dificiles al lado de mis seres mas amados; mis hermanos, mis hermanas, mis papas, mis sobrinas y sobrinos, mi familia. En realidad la vida supo traerme al lado de los mios en el momento preciso, cuando era sumamente necesario el que nos acompañemos en familia, y sepamos estar con alma, corazon, cuerpo y vida el uno al lado del otro. No hay dia que pase que yo no de gracias por los hermosos e invaluables corazones de mis seres amados, de esos luminosos humanos que la vida en un gran acto de amor quizo darme por familia. Son muchas las cosas que podria contarles, pero sobre todo quiero compartir con ustedes hoy que en estos dos años he aprendido invaluables lecciones a nivel personal que continuan aportando a mi crecer, a mi vision y a mi esencia como persona, como directora de La Casa De Mayten, y como parte de una comunidad humana enorme.

Les cuento que en el transcurso de los cuatro años increibles que pase en Chincha trabajando con LCDM fui colectando muchas satisfacciones, mucho crecer y aprender, mucho amor, mucha luz, mucha sensacion de posibilidad, muchos amigos, y a la vez, muchas preocupaciones, responsabilidades, deudas, y una que otra complicacion de salud. Es a causa de estas ultimas que decidi suspender por un tiempo mi trabajo con LCDM para prestar atencion a otras partes y responsabilidades importantes, incluyendo a mi familia y a mi salud que hiba en deterioro. Bueno, haciendo un salto al ahora, les cuento que sigo al lado de mi familia, particularmente de mi amado hermano Eli, quien no deja de mostrarme variados caminos hacia mi propio crecer. Tambien sigo trabajando para restaurar mi salud. Actualmente estoy bajo una terapia holistica la cual es intensa y muy exigente, pero que me esta ayudando a reparar mi salud poco a poco y a fortalecer mi sistema immunologico el cual sufrio varias caidas en los ultimos años durante los cuales no pude hacerme tratar adecuadamente por falta de medios economicos y tiempo. Espero estar completamente bien pronto para poder conseguir un trabajo, pagar unas deudas que tengo, y poder regresar a mi verdadero camino de vida que es La Casa De Mayten. Asi que POR FAVOR envienme su buena energia, abrazos, cantos, risas y besos cada que puedan ya que estoy segura toda esa wena vibra llegara a mi ser y alimentara mi salud. Gracias!!!!!

La Casa De Mayten aspira a seguir siendo oportunidad, alternativa, y sincera invitacion a conversar, a contemplar, a considerar, a redefinir si queremos, a encontrarnos siempre en acuerdos y en desacuerdos, a reir, a sentir, a pensar, a vivir, pero sobre todo a crear juntos caminos visibles e invisibles hacia el bienestar integro de todos en un sin fin de maneras. La Casa De Mayten no ha terminado aun y quiere seguir siendo un proyecto comunitario independiente que respira, que vive, que crece, que aprende, que se evalua, que cambia cuando es natural y necesario, y que se transforma y comparte siempre. Hoy sigo creyendo que la coneccion e intercambio entre seres humanos que reconocen, valoran y comparten sus diversas experiencias, ideas, preguntas, dudas, creencias, necesidades, virtudes, dificultades y demas es Vital. Ahora mas que nunca creo que el cultivo de las emociones y relaciones saludables, la educacion creativo-emocional anti-violencia pro salud integral, y todo esfuerzo/accion que tenga como raiz, intencion, y meta el bienestar integral de todo ser humano tiene que seguir brotando en todo barrio, comunidad, anexo, valle, casa, quincha, ciudad, escuela, calle, etc. Mi amor, mi fe absoluta en el trabajo que hacemos, y mis fuerzas siguen en aumento y por eso se que La Casa De Mayten reabrira sus puertas mas fuerte, mas conciente, mejor. Estoy rogando a mi cuerpo y a la vida me permitan estar bien, sana, fuerte y con los recursos economicos, emocionales, fisicos y humanos suficientes en el 2014 para asi poder ir retornando a mi proyecto poco a poco, a Chincha, a Cusco, al trabajo que llena mi vida, y a mis amados niños, que ya no son tan niños en Mina De Oro. Con su ayuda se que La Casa De Mayten retornara con una nueva y mejor vida a Chincha y a cualquier lugar donde podamos conversar, crear, amar, crecer, reir, y ser humanos juntos.

Con la meta de poder comprar un terreno, construir un centro y reabrir oficialmente La Casa De Mayten, estoy organizando actualmente Circulos De Apoyo en Estados Unidos y alrededor del mundo. Con estos circulos estoy invitando a amigos voluntarios que han trabajado con nosotros en Chincha, y a amigos de La Casa De Mayten quienes conocen nuestro trabajo intimamente a formar grupos de por lo menos 10 personas interesadas en conocer nuestro trabajo y apoyar nuestros esfuerzos de diferentes formas a largo plazo. Cada organizador(a) con ayuda de los miembros de su circulo organizara un inicial evento informativo recauda fondos en su comunidad/casa durante el cual yo podre comunicarme directamente con todos los miembros usando Skype y demas herramientas de comunicacion. Posteriormente, cada circulo seguira organizando reuniones mensuales rotando casa. Reuniones que seran oportunidades para seguirnos conociendo entre si, para compartir arte, noticias sobre LCDM y su progreso, y para fortalecer nuestra humanidad que siempre necesita alimento y los nutrientes emocionales, intelectuales, fisicos y espirituales que se dan cuando un grupo de seres humanos se reunen alrededor de deseos y sueños compartidos con la misma intencion de dar, ser y recibir bien. Este 2013 he estado tambien visitando diferentes organizaciones y proyectos y reuniendome con sus directores lo cual me esta informando mucho y inspirando a la vez muchas nuevas ideas. Tambien en estas ganas de crecer y retornar a mi proyecto mejor preparada he asistido y espero seguir asistiendo a paneles y eventos educativos que me estan dejando mucho aprendizaje. Les cuento que hace unos meses tuve la gran oportunidad de acercarme al trabajo enfocado en educacion emocional y no violencia que lleva realizando, promoviendo y inspirando su santidad el Dalai Lama. Tambien pude acercarme al trabajo que realiza el Centro Para La Investigacion De Mentes Saludables en Wisconsin, y reunirme con un par de profesionales en ese centro quienes estan realizando estudios excepcionales y tambien implementando programas educativos innovadores basados en practicas meditativas y desarrollo emocional. Gracias al trabajo arduo de mi compañero Andy y a la generosidad de su familia pude asistir a un panel liderado por su santidad el Dalai Lama y pude escuchar sus enseñanzas que en su infinita simpleza son insuperablemente claras, bellas, impregnadas de sabiduria que no invade pero impacta en el centro de tu humanidad. A mi por lo menos, no me queda otra mas que aprender y dejar que este ser tan especial y luminoso al igual que otros que conoci en este evento sigan enriqueciendo mi vida. Fue para mi un increible regalo poder sentirme entre tantos seres humanos deseosos de luz y de ser luz, de bien y de ser bien.

Gracias Andy por haber hecho ese dia posible....mi ser jamas te agradecera lo suficiente por todo el amor que das, por tu fe en mi, en todo lo que soy y en lo que puedo ser, por ser mi compañero en los momentos luminosos y en los oscuros...gracias por ser mi paz, y por llevar el mar pacifico en tus ojos que siempre me recuerdan amar sin limite, vivir cada segundo aferrada a mi esencia, vivir sin miedo a ser entera, a compartirme siempre, y a descubrir los mundos de los diversos seres que pasan por mi vida. Te quiero y se que tu y yo podremos construir La Casa De Mayten, nuestra casa, adobe a adobe, como lo hemos hecho antes un dia no muy lejano....

Para cerrar esta entrada les cuento de otro GRAN momento de fortuna y gracias a la generosidad de un querido amigo de La Casa De Mayten, Victor Lopez del Aguila, y su prometida, tuve en Junio la oportunidad tremenda de ser parte de un programa creativo-educativo ofrecido por "School For Designing a Society" en el Instituto Gesundheit fundado por el famoso Doctor Patch Adams. Esta fue una experiencia inolvidable, llena de momentos enriquecedores y sobre todo de seres humanos brillantes en todo sentido que llenaron mi vida por tres semanas, que se compartieron sin reserva al igual que yo, y que vivieron conmigo algo que se siente aun a belleza, aun a sueño real. Los quiero a todos!!! Gracias Gesundheit Institute!!!!!

Second Life.....Segunda Vida

 

Dear Friends, as you might remember, in 2011, I decided to suspend LCDM activities in Chincha and travel to the US, hoping to establish circles of support in different cities, to fundraise so that the purchasing of land and the building of LCDM's home could become a reality, and to dedicate some time to family and to taking care of a few unattended health issues. It has been two years since I left Chincha and many extraordinarily wonderful and difficult things have happened to me since, often leading me to unforseen yet invaluable situations that have forced me to drastically shift focus and have kept me from meeting several of my initial LCDM related goals. I am nonetheless deeply grateful for all the unexpected, beautiful, and painful moments I continue to experience, for they have and continue to contribute to my growth and personal enrichment.

Upon my return to the US, I realized very quickly that life wanted me close to my family, and though I managed to get a job as assistant director of admission at a cool little college in the northeast, a loved one's health crisis encouraged me to resign that position and move closer for some time. I can not tell you in words how precise life was in influencing that decision at that particular time because an earthquake of a personal nature was on its way to my life and the lives of my immediate family. I often say I am an obedient child of life and love, and I will go where ever they guide me. So, off I went as this personal earthquake hit, following my love's orders, and a year and some months later, I am in Southwest Florida, stronger, better, filled with gratitude and renewed motivation. Quite honestly, the past year was the most challenging of all my years, but also the most enriching. I have felt myself break open several times and have experienced very vividly my whole being expand in ways I could have never foreseen.

Yes, I have been without a paying job for the past year and a half, which has made a return trip to Peru impossible, but I maintain virtual contact with the kids, who  continue to be connected to each other and, electronically, to the greater LCDM family. I am working hard these days to raise the necessary funds so that I can be in Peru in August 2013. Meanwhile, I have been hard at work for the past year and a half bringing my emotion, integral health, and anti-violence education program to my most immediate, beloved, and precious local community: my family.

It isn't often that one gets to share the work one values and loves so much with loved ones, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have a family that is not only open and receptive, but appreciative of the work and love I am sharing with them, and equally ready to share with me. Thank life for my brothers, for my sisters, for my parents, for my nieces and nephews, y por mi Luna hermosa.

 My beloved nephews Josh, Silverio and Jessy...your lighter hearts and minds are my greatest gifts!

My entire being radiates with gratitude to everyone and everything that continues to contribute to my learning. I am particularly grateful to my beautiful brother Eli for all the invaluable lessons he is teaching me daily, and to my life-altering giant nephews and nieces Jessy, Joshua, Silverio, Kaylob, Jaycob, Rei, Logan, Estefany, Melanie, Ericka, Serenity, Konny, Triana, and Jazmin.

In the last eight months, I have been learning a lot about the Dalai Lama's nonviolence and emotion education work and about the many institutions and talented people he has inspired.  Deeply moved by His Holiness's simple yet profoundly communicative being, I decided to write to him about my emotion, integral well-being, and anti-violence education program and to attend an excellent discussion panel that His Holiness inspired and facilitated in Madison, Wisconsin. I took advantage of my trip to Madison to learn about and connect with several interesting organizations doing impressive work on sustainability, emotion research and education, meditative practices and sustainable well-being, disaster management, anti-violence education, and more. I was very lucky to have been able to meet with people from The Center for Investigating Health Minds and The Center for Disaster Management at University of Wisconsin, Madison. I also met with the directors of Sustain Dane and the RainBird Foundation. I sincerely thank each person from the above-mentioned organizations for the time and information they shared with me.

Truthfully, I could not have gone to Madison without my partner's help, and I would not have enjoyed my stay as much or have been able to so easily navigate through places and meetings without the warmth, hospitality, and generosity shown to me by my partner's awesome relatives...Thank you Spike, Lynnie, Kristen, Nancy, boys, everyone! You truly made my stay pleasant, and my experience in Madison memorable. Gracias!

I met so many incredible human beings these past 20 days at Gesundheit and learned so much from every single person there and from all the life surrounding the institute. Thank you Gesundheit Institute and School for Designing a Society for the unique opportunity to think, feel, speak, reflect, learn, love, laugh, share, and do with such an extraordinary group of people and in such a remarkable, nature-filled space. nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah na nah...tutto tutto tutto tutto tuuuuuuttoooooooo! Los quiero and thank you!!!!!!

With renewed spirits and with help from every person out there who believes in our work, I hope to be able to fully reactivate La Casa De Mayten by 2014 and have the necessary funds to buy land and begin building LCDM's permanent base in Peru. To that effect, I plan to dedicate the upcoming year to traveling around the US, organizing circles of support in different cities, and visiting a variety of like-minded organizations to learn from their experiences, exchange ideas and passions, and develop potential partnerships. I also hope to attend a handful of educational courses that will help me as Director become more aware and better prepared for the work ahead.

The idea for our support circles will be to invite a group of at least 10 people per circle to learn more about LCDM's work, commit to continue cultivating a meaningful relationship with LCDM, and become a permanent source of friendship and support in the form of monetary and material donations, volunteer referrals, information resource, ideas hub, organizational partners, emotional support, etc. If you have volunteered with LCDM before, or have been following our blog closely and feel connected to our vision and work and would like to be considered as a potential circle organizer, please email me at lacasademayten@gmail.com so we can start a conversation about what we can do together in your community. In the upcoming weeks, I will post more information about my travel plans and the project's most immediate needs and objectives. Please stay tuned!!!!

I am a better human being because of you, and I feel that I am on my way to many more life altering lessons which will continue to enrich my life, my work, and all the opportunities for sharing and exchanging in the future.

I feel like a swollen caterpillar ready to burst into a second, new, better life. One that is rich with learning opportunities, unconditional love, profound gratitude, moments of abandoned laughter and lightness, deeply difficult and painful challenges that come wrapped around deeply luminous possibilities, and perspective-altering growth.
Writing on this blog became nearly impossible for me these past two years. Each emotion felt like a 50 ton rock I could not lift from my voice. I thank each of you who helped me with your thoughts, comments, ideas, disagreements, direct honesty, and unique perspectives to free my whole being from this invisible weight I have now managed to lift enough to write today. I love each of you deeply and I will carry you in me forever.

Before closing this entry, I want to thank my incredible partner for his endless love, for his faith in my spirit, in all that I am and can become, and in my dreams for LCDM, for his overwhelming generosity and support, for working side by side with me to keep LCDM alive these past five years, for hitchhiking and riding on tiny motorcycles through whole countries with me, for building houses and life from scratch with me, and for never letting go of my heart and eyes and trustingly walking with me during the last years, even when times turned painful, scary, and uncertain.
